The Standard Approach: Even Split Per Person
- Best for: Groups sharing equivalent rooms or the same space
- Fairness: High when everyone has similar access to the space
- Ease: Simple — total cost ÷ number of people
- When to adjust: When room quality differs significantly
When to Split Per Room vs. Per Person
Split per person when everyone shares one space (Airbnb house, single hotel suite). Split per room when different rooms have different configurations — e.g., one couple gets a king room and two friends share a double. In that case, charge per room and split each room's cost among its occupants.
How to Handle the Deposit and Full Payment
- One person puts the booking on their card (they get points/perks)
- Immediately after booking, send everyone their share via Payback
